KONTEXTIL – Textile Perspectives on Brandenburg

Exhibition
Grafik mit dem Schriftzug Kontextil, textile Perspektiven auf Brandenburg

Exhibition "KONTEXTIL – Textile Perspectives on Brandenburg". Topics from politics, the environment and society were realised using embroidery machines, looms, by hand and various textile materials. Get to know Brandenburg from a new and textile perspective as part of this exhibition!

The exhibition "KONTEXTIL – Textile Perspectives on Brandenburg" uses freely available data on the state of Brandenburg, which was woven into aesthetic data visualisations as part of a design course at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. The aim was to explore the physical possibilities of data visualisations and to try out different methods of representation. Using embroidery machines, looms, by hand and various textile materials, topics from politics, the environment and society were realised and new perspectives on Brandenburg were created. These range from political and social topics such as medical care, real estate, federal elections and Sorbian culture to environmental issues such as light pollution, falling water levels, moors, vineyards and illegal landfill sites in the state.

There is an increasing amount of freely available data that can, in principle, give us an insight into the interrelationships of our living environments, but it is often abstract and only accessible to selected groups. As a society, we therefore need new forms of presentation in order to awaken interest in the added value of data. With the KONTEXTIL exhibition, we want to get you excited about freely available data and interesting topics in our federal state of Brandenburg. Get to know Brandenburg from a new and textile perspective!
